It is mainly because of the impacts of climate change, which aggravates existing vulnerabilities in the country, that many people's lives are affecting sudden or progressive environmental changes.
Climate change is exacerbating existing vulnerabilities in the Philippines, which is facing critical environmental challenges. These include rising sea levels and coastal erosion, increased frequency and intensity of typhoons, severe droughts and water scarcity, deforestation and land degradation, and health risks from diseases. These impacts disrupt agriculture, fisheries, and infrastructure, pushing vulnerable communities into poverty and heightening the need for adaptive strategies and disaster preparedness.
Overall, global climate change aggravates pre-existing environmental and socio-economic woes in the Philippines, meaning many communities are more predisposed to disasters, the loss of livelihoods, and poor health outcomes. Adaptive strategies, disaster preparedness, and sustainable development are needed now more than ever.
